Anna Nicole Smith: The Story of a Famous Model from Houston

In the United States, many successful and popular models reside, often appearing not only on magazine covers or world-famous runways but also on television. Next on houstonka.

The life of an American model might seem easy and carefree to many, but this is far from the truth. In the face of competition and the pursuit of an impeccable appearance, models often live by strict rules, follow specific regimes, and frequently limit their diets.

Famed model Anna Nicole Smith was not only a well-known model but also a media personality, with the entirety of America following her life.

How did she become a model? Did she pursue anything beyond modeling? Why did she die at such a young age?

Childhood with Her Aunt

Anna Nicole Smith was born on November 28, 1967, in Houston, Texas. Her real name was Vickie Lynn Hogan. Her parents, Virgie Tabers and Donald Hogan, divorced shortly after her birth, leaving Vickie in her mother’s care.

Vickie’s mother worked as a police officer. Due to numerous responsibilities and a demanding work schedule, she had very little time to raise her daughter. She couldn’t afford to leave her job, as it was her only means of income. As a result, Vickie spent her childhood with her aunt, Kay Beall. The two became very close, and Vickie often referred to her aunt as “another mother.”

Interestingly, many years later, when Vickie became a famous model, she managed to locate her biological father and reconnect with him. After their reunion, Vickie felt relieved and mentioned in an interview that she was very proud of her father.

Vickie attended school in Houston until the ninth grade, after which she moved in with her aunt. She showed little interest in school, eventually withdrawing from Mexia High School without completing her studies.

The Girl on the Cover

To make ends meet, Vickie worked in a low-end restaurant, where she met her first husband. It wasn’t until she was 20 years old that she entered the world of modeling. In 1992, she appeared in an advertisement for the well-known brand “Guess.” Her performance impressed the clients, and they continued to work with her. It was at this point that the model adopted the pseudonym Anna Nicole Smith. Interestingly, “Anna Nicole” was a completely made-up name, while “Smith” was her husband’s last name. This is the name by which she became famous worldwide. Anna Nicole began working in various cities, modeling for numerous well-known brands, and gracing the covers of top American magazines.

In 1993, Smith was named “Playboy’s Playmate of the Year,” a significant accolade from the magazine with which she also collaborated.

A Foray into Acting

Starting in 1994, Anna Nicole was invited to participate in various acting projects, which she eagerly accepted, as she wanted to explore acting.

That year, she made her film debut in Naked Gun 33 ⅓: The Final Insult. Although she didn’t become a famous actress, she did appear in several shows, including The Naked Truth, Skyscraper, Ally McBeal, Be Cool, and others.

In addition to her acting roles, Smith hosted her own show, The Anna Nicole Show, which aired from 2002 to 2004.

There’s even a film about her life, Anna Nicole Smith: Exposed, in which she served as both a model and a director and writer.

Personal Life

Over the course of her life, the model was married three times. Her first husband, Billy Smith, has been mentioned earlier. They were married from 1985 to 1993 and had a son together, Daniel.

Anna met her second husband in the early 1990s at a strip club where she worked due to financial difficulties. J. Howard Marshall II helped Anna Nicole gain fame and soon proposed to her. Despite the 58-year age difference, she accepted. A year into their marriage, J. Howard passed away, and Smith spent the next 11 years battling her stepson over the inheritance.

Her third husband, however, was younger than her. His name was Howard, and they met during her inheritance battles, where he served as her lawyer. The couple married in 2006, by which time Anna already had a daughter named Dannielynn (from a previous relationship).

Sadly, their marriage lasted less than a year, as Anna Nicole Smith passed away in 2007. She had spent her final years living in the Bahamas. On February 8, the day of her death, she was in Florida, where she became ill. Despite being taken to the hospital, she passed away shortly after. It was later revealed that she had overdosed on antidepressants, which she had been taking for several years.
